Reiki, pronounced ‘ray-key’, is a form of CAM (complementary alternative medicine) that focuses on promoting relaxation to facilitate healing in the recipient's body.

Most people describe a feeling of warmth coming from the practitioner's hands. They have a sense of deep relaxation and a feeling of being cared for as if by a loving parent.

Yes! Everyone is able to practice this healing art. We are all born with the innate ability to tap into this healing energy. Taking a Reiki class gives you the knowledge and tools for practice.

The length of training depends on who you are training with and the rate at which you progress through the levels. Also, it depends on what level you decide to stop training and if you study with more than one master. Reiki training never actually ends because it is a life-long practice that always teaches you new things.
Kinetic Roots teaches Reiki level one in a 6hr period and Reiki level two in the same length of time. We teach Master level in a 14-hour period and recommend a year of practice before taking this level. Master-Teacher level training progresses at a rate that is decided between the teacher and student, but often takes no longer than 1–2 months to complete all requirements.

No. Currently, practicing Reiki does not require any licensure in the state of North Carolina, nor in most other states. There are a few legal considerations, such as not sliding your hands along the client's body, but those considerations are discussed in level one Reiki training.

No. There are many practitioners who train in Reiki practice who do not work with clients. They may work with plants/animals or only work on themselves. There is no requirement to work on other people outside the classroom. Reiki can be a personal practice for self-improvement as well as a healing modality for the treatment of others.

Reiki does not produce any side effects like other treatments. However, clients and students may experience detox symptoms or possible healing crisis moments.
Detoxes are when you release toxins out of your body for a period of time after a treatment. This is usually seen in the form of darkened urine elimination or a feeling of getting over a slight cold. These feelings are completely normal and typically only last a day or two after the treatment.
Healing crises are rare, but can happen. This typically occurs during a treatment session, and the practitioner should be trained in handling the situation. A healing crisis is usually triggered when healing work is done for a trauma or trigger. It is a heavy emotional release that seemingly comes out of nowhere. When this happens, it is recommended to ground and allow it to run its course. This too is a natural and healthy part of the healing process.

No. Reiki is a spiritual and self-discipline practice that is heavily based in Buddhist practices because the founder of Reiki was Buddhist. However, as a practitioner, you are not required to follow any specific religion nor participate in any religious ceremonies/practices. Reiki encourages self development through guiding precepts and meditation to better understand one's own mind.

In short, no, Reiki as a practice does not conflict with any religion. However, in the interest of transparency, there are a few religions and religious leaders who have spoken out against Reiki. We at Kinetic Roots believe this boils down to a lack of understanding of the practice and its precepts. Reiki practice encourages the practitioner to develop joy, peace, gratitude, diligence, and kindness in their life. This development aligns with most religions in the world and fosters world peace.

A Reiki share, or Reiki circle, is an event where practitioners can practice and learn from one another. It is often led by a Reiki master/master-teacher and is a great way to test out if Reiki is right for you.
In our Reiki shares, we accept all people from all lineages of Reiki. We begin with a 5-10 minute meditation to bring you into the present moment. We then practice healing on a chosen recipient in 10 minute intervals. This group healing work fosters interconnection in the healing community.

Absolutely! Reiki is a great way to build a relationship with your pets, crystals, and plants! Using Reiki with your pets can help them be calmer and happier. It can help you to charge your crystals and gain a deeper understanding of the energy frequency in the crystal. When working with plants, you can connect to them on an energetic level and help them grow. The only limitations on using Reiki are those you set in your own mind.

Reiki certification can be added to your professional resume. Reiki has become a recognizable and possibly household known therapy. It shows that you are interested in personal growth and wellbeing. For those in a CAM (complementary alternative medicine), medical, or general wellness career path, adding your certification to your resume can add to your professional skills.

No. When practicing Reiki, you can easily work a few inches off the body and never have to actually make contact. Also, there are other practices you will learn, at the appropriate level of training, that allow you to heal from across the room, or even from a distance.
